A fine soul-blues band is "Modern Roots". The members has exeperience in the music at least for 30 years. You can hear that the band is a solid band. They can't surprising each other, and everyone give a good musical reaction. Perhaps they are surprising each other with their good ideas. Through they are great musiscians each note comes always on the right place. Powerful band with five excellent restrained musicians who approach with professionalism and good taste a repertoire made by own songs and versions, done with tons of swing, beat and an impressing groove. No Apologies is the debut CD from the ModernRoots band, a local labor-of-love that's been 12 years in the making. The band's sound is a guitar and synthesizer-driven mix of electrified blues-based smooth jazz and rock. According to their bios, all five members have been playing for over 30 years with different bands, and that level of experience shows. The performances are technically superb and overall there's a very smooth and polished feel to the recording. The songs cover a variety of styles, from the jumping swing of "Strike" to the bluesy commentary of "Under the Rug" to the jazzy instrumental "As If We Knew". Blues purists will probably find the synths objectionable (or at least a little off-putting), but fans of B.B. I love this album, it is very professional and a nice rock touch to some of the tracks too. I will be playing a track on "The Blues Show "on Monday Feb. 1st on BishopFM 105.9. I'll post a playlist next week.

AS IF WE KNEW to their Blues-Rock inspired protest song, UNDER THE RUG, "MODERNROOTS" lays out an original, eclectic mix of Blues, Soul, R&B and Rock on their debut CD.

"NO APOLOGIES" is a spectacular album filled with soul and blues music. MODERN ROOTS fill this album with great songwriting, heartfelt and fun beats, guitar and keyboard solos, and so much more. All throughout the album MODERN ROOTS’ music reflects blues music of the past, but at the same time keep their beats modern. Their music is similar to Rascal Flats and Chuck Berry.

TRACK 1-"Under the Rug" A fantastic start to the album. This track is filled with a lot of flavor; it has a very upbeat poppy style attached to it. Love the keys on this track.
TRACK 3-"Locked Out of Love" A nice track that takes you back to the old days of blues. The lead singer does an awesome job for his raspy and rough voice that reflects the message of the song.
TRACK 8-"I’ll Go Crazy" A great track that has a funky upbeat tempo. The keys give the song an added auto-tune tone to it. There is an awesome instrumental collaboration solo towards the end of the song.

I've played one cut from this CD, BAREFOOTIN', last week (8-22-'09) and posted the playlist to the Blues-DJ group on Yahoo.com and to RadioDirectX. I have added the CD to KUNR's library and will continue to use it. Thanks, and keep up the good work!
